If you haven’t yet fallen in love with Pinterest for another reason in your life, be prepared for Pinterest to quickly become your new favorite social media obsession.
Now that you’re engaged, planning and designing your wedding is naturally on your mind. There is no better place to go for wedding design inspiration than Pinterest.
But be warned. It is VERY addicting. I can easily get lost in all the beautiful, creative ideas, start pinning away, and before I realize it, it is dark outside and hours have evaporated before my eyes.
Needless to say – pin with caution – and a plan!
Here’s my guide to help you effectively organize your inspiration on Pinterest and create a wedding design mood board to clearly communicate your vision to your vendors.
Let’s get started!
TIPS TO ORGANIZE YOUR INSPIRATION ON PINTEREST
Create Unique Boards
Create a different board for each aspect of your wedding. Here are a few of the board topic suggestions to help you get started:
- Color schemes
- Ceremony Decor
- Cocktail Reception Decor
- Reception Decor & Tablescapes
- Stationary
- Floral Decor
- Cake Design
- Bridal Gowns
- Hairstyles
- Makeup
- Bridesmaid Dresses
- Place cards & Seating Charts
- Wedding Party Gifts
- Favors
- Creative Wedding Ideas You Like
Pin with Descriptions
Make a quick note each time you pin something to a board regarding what you liked about the particular pin. As your boards become more complex, it will be helpful to remember what initially caught your eye.
Don’t Forget to Scroll Down
When you pin, Pinterest will naturally suggest similar additional pins. Don’t forget to scroll down and check out the suggestions before starting a new keyword search. Let the Pinterest-gods lead the way! 😉
Think Outside the Box
Don’t limit yourself to searching just wedding specific designs. Broaden your search to interior design, fashion, art, photography and other topics that strike your fancy. Do a little free-style Pinterest searching. You never know when inspiration will strike!
Sharing Your Secrets
Be sure to take advantage of Pinterest tools like creating secret boards (which come in handy for topics like “Bridal Gowns”) and sharing boards with your vendors. I love sharing Pinterest boards with my florist in particular. A picture is worth a thousand of awkward gestures and vague color descriptions when talking about the floral decor for your wedding.
CREATE YOUR WEDDING MOOD BOARD COLLAGE
There are a few free mood board collage creators for you to explore. My favorite two make it super easy for you to simply upload your favorite wedding inspiration images and the software does the rest for you.
Picmonkey collage creator
Picmonkey is super intuitive. Simply click the collage icon at the top of the homepage, upload your images and BAM! your collage is ready to download and share with your planner and vendors.
The Dessy Group styleboard creator
While Dessy is not a wedding specific website, it does have awesome inspiration board function. You’ll have to create a free account to save your boards. But it’s worth it. Dessy clearly walks you inspiration mood categories like bridesmaid dresses, decor, shoes, color swatches, etc. Simply move through each category, make your selections and your wedding inspiration board will be complete!
I hope these tools make creating your wedding mood board fun and addictive! Happy creating!
